Russian Horse Guards Regiment, 1900

A FINE IMPERIAL RUSSIAN HORSE GUARD REGIMENT OFFICER'S TUNIC OR 'KOLLER', ca 1900. White boiled wool tunic with red cuffs and piping. Silver bullion braid mixed with orange and bordered in blue trim on collar, front and cuffs. Collar and cuffs also display silver bullion Litzen, those on the cuffs with gold double-headed eagle buttons. Complete with gold bullion fringed epaulettes faced in red with applied gold tone crown and cipher of Nicholas II. The left chest is tailored with award attachment holes. Reverse has piped false pocket flaps with buttons on the skirt. The garment closes with brass hooks and eyes and is lined in fine white fabric. Displayed with the tunic are a silver bullion and mixed Romanov colors parade belt and a white flecked orange and black aiguillette with silvered crowned points. A very rare surviving example in well preserved condition. Provenance: Reputed to have belonged to the Commander of the Regiments First Squadron.
